The ocean has an impact on all our senses: the unique sea smell, the crashing


  sound of breakers, the glitter of waves dancing under the sun and the moon, the


  feel of spindrift blowing across ones face, the salty, bitter taste of the water. Part


  of it must come from outside the senses, from half-forgotten memories and


  images beyond imagining, deep below the surface of the consciousness.
